VALLEY YOUTH CONFERENCE - VALLEY UNITED

POST SEASON 2002

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Two years ago, the Valley Youth Conference formed an All-Star team made up of our top athletes from the entire Track & Field Conference. As a result Valley United was born. We competed in National Meets during the Post Season and "put our face on the map" that first year, placing in the top 8 in multiple events.

Last summer, we took approximately 50 athletes through Post Season Competition, starting with the Association meet and completing at the Junior Olymics in Sacramento. We brought home over 47 medals! Aside from competing in the Junior Olympic Circuit, we took this All-Star team to the USA Track & Field Youth Athletic Championships in Decatur, Illinois and once again achieved wonderful things, including winning multiple events. When you think about it, this was a group of athletes who had not run together prior to the week following the IEC. They had one week to train together. Look at what they did!

This year our community will be represented by the strongest and largest group of youth athletes ever. As a result, we do anticipate taking over 100 athletes to the Post Season Events.

COSTS:

The cost for each athlete is $100.00. This includes secondary insurance, use of the uniforms, necessary entry fees to all meets (except the L.A. Jets Invitational). The cost for travel, food and lodging will depend on the amount of money raised with sponsors, contributions and the 1st Annual Raffle.

TAC CARDS:

In order for any athlete to participate in post season competition, they must have a current USA Track & Field TAC card on file. This is $17.00 annually and must be paid by the club and/or parent. You can get card applications from Erika McIntosh. The Valley United Striders are Team #015 with USA T&F. Please return these applications and the registration fees to Erika ASAP.

COACHES:

The coaches for the 2002 Post Season are as follows:

Bantam Girls - Russell Jenkins
Bantam Boys - Dale Morgan
Midget Girls - Gerald Hood; Aaron Crosby
Midget Boys - Danny Jordan
Youth Girls - Gerald Hood; Aaron Crosby
Youth Boys - Keith Stenhouse; Mike Russell
Distance - Dwayne Green
We are still looking for a Field Events Coach. If nobody fills that position, each division coach will work with the athletes in field events as well.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

Practice will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Birmingham High School from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., beginning the Monday following the IECs.

VENUES:

This season we will be participating in the USA Track & Field Meets as well as possibly the AAU Meets. We have found that the level of competition is greater and more compatible with our athletes in the USA Track & Field Meets. The following is a brief overview of the meets we will be participating in as a team.

USAT&F Regional J.O. Championships:

The athletes who advance from the Associations will be registered on 6/9/02

The top 3 in each event will advance to the Junior Olympics

Please do not enter this event unless you intend to compete in the Junior Olympics in Omaha.  It is considered poor sportsmanship to displace another athlete who WOULD like to attend the National Junior Olympics.

Cal State Games:

July 13-14, 2002 @ Balboa Stadium, San Diego High School

1405 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA

This Meet is used as a "conditioning meet" for our athletes who have advanced to the Junior Olympics and is not mandatory to compete at the Junior Olympics. This allows them to get in shape before they go against the top athletes in their divisions.

USA T&F J.O. Multi-Event Championships:

July 13-14, 2002 @ TBA, Whittier, CA

Additional information to be forwarded upon receipt.

USA T&F Junior Olympics:

July 23-28, 2002 @ Harry A. Burke High School, Omaha, NE

All athletes who have made it this far will be registered at the Regionals.

The following two meets are undecided upon at this time. We will be participating in one of them definitely, however, we have not decided yet which one. Additional information will be forwarded once we have made our decision.
